KIWI SAFFRON

Kiwi Saffron, a family-run business in North Canterbury, is dedicated to growing the highest quality organic saffron in New Zealand. With a focus on sustainability and natural growing methods, Steve and Jo sought ways to enhance their saffron yield while maintaining the pristine condition of their land.

As a trial, they applied Living Earth’s BioGro-certified organic compost to select saffron rows, and the results were remarkable. The saffron plants in the composted beds developed greener, longer leaves, while weeds were naturally suppressed. Most impressively, the saffron yield increased, reinforcing the value of high-quality compost in commercial horticulture.

The success of this trial highlighted the benefits of Living Earth Organic Compost—made from Auckland’s organic garden waste and designed to improve soil structure and moisture retention. By enriching the soil naturally, the compost supports healthier plant growth and better crop performance.

Kiwi Saffron’s experience demonstrates how Living Earth’s organic compost helps growers across Aotearoa achieve outstanding results while caring for the land. Whether for large-scale horticulture or home gardening, Living Earth’s compost provides the nutrients needed for plants to thrive—naturally and sustainably.

Quote

"As a trial, we applied Living Earth organic certified Compost to some of our rows of saffron. The results astounded us - the leaves were greener and longer in the composted rows and kept the weeds down on the beds.

And even more exciting - our yield of saffron increased! We wish we had discovered the friendly people at Living Earth and their great compost sooner. I highly recommend Living Earth Compost for horticulture crops.”
