Long Bay, a premium subdivision on Auckland’s Upper North Shore, is setting new standards for sustainable urban design. Developed by Todd Property and expected to house over 2,000 dwellings upon completion, the community incorporates a full raingarden catchment system to manage stormwater effectively.
Designed by Woods Consultancy and installed by The Plant People, the roadside raingardens utilise Living Earth Raingarden Mix to filter and purify stormwater before it enters the environment. This ensures Long Bay’s waterways remain clean and protected while supporting the area’s long-term sustainability goals.
Living Earth Raingarden Mix is an advanced bio-retention filter media, made from aged compost, premium loam topsoil, and sand. Engineered to meet Auckland’s Stormwater Management Devices guidelines, it absorbs and slowly releases water, reducing overflow and contamination risks.
By integrating green infrastructure into its design, Long Bay is demonstrating how urban development can harmonise with nature. Living Earth is proud to contribute to this forward-thinking approach, helping to create resilient, eco-friendly communities that thrive for generations to come.
